The urban utility tunnel is an essential part of the urban infrastructure construction development. It can adjust the city planning and development rationally. The space underground is getting rarer due to the tense urbanization development. Therefore the requirements of the underground pipeline layout cannot be fulfilled gradually. The utility tunnel can actualize intensive development of the pipelines for electric power, communications and water supply, and is significant for the maintenance and management of the city pipelines. However, the utility tunnel is only at the beginning stage in China and is lacking of mature norms and theories. So the joint effort is needed for improving the theories of utility tunnel design and construction.
